The probate application fee is £526, whether you apply yourself or through a professional. Estates at or below £5,000 pay nothing. Extra office copies of the grant cost £2 each when ordered with the application and £16 each later.

How many office copies to order
One per organisation that will need to see the grant, plus a spare or two. Banks, pension providers, share registrars, insurers and the Land Registry may each want their own. Ordering them with the application is much cheaper than ordering them afterwards.
Paying the fee
- Paid to HM Courts & Tribunals Service as part of the application, normally by card
- Some banks will release funds directly from the deceased's account to pay it before the grant issues — ask the bank
- Help with fees may be available to applicants on a low income or with limited savings
